FOOD & DRINK: Spring menus and drinks are sprouting at area restaurants

As flowers bloom and trees bud, chefs welcome spring with new menus. At Flora in Jenkintown, try the garlic and spinach soup, spicy chickpea and vegetable vindaloo or spaghetti with asparagus, breadcrumbs and lemon.

Springtime selections at Restaurant Alba in Malvern include beet ravioli with poppy seed butter and smoked ricotta. Also, save time this Easter by picking up sides, entrees and even breakfast to go. Order by Wednesday, April 12.

Prefer to sip spring flavors? Head to Nectar in Berwyn for new seasonal cocktails like a toasted coconut and sage mojito, blackberry and Thai basil smash or pineapple lemongrass martini – just to name a few.

Speaking of drinks, raise a glass to Mercato Ristorante and Bar in West Chester, winner of the sixth annual Chef’s Best Competition. The recent event benefitted ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester.

In other food news, stop by Hopewell Furnace in Elverson on Saturday, April 8 for a Dutch Oven Gathering, a free cooking demonstration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Indulge your sweet tooth at Penns Woods Winery in Chadds Ford with wine and cupcakes on April 8, 9, 22, 23, 29 and 30. Pairings cost $25 per person and feature treats from Dia Doce, winner of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. For reservations, call 610-459-0808.

Hop over to Chaddsford Winery for adult Easter egg hunts on April 8, 9 and 15. Prizes include wine tastings, bottles and more. Tickets are $15 and include a glass of wine. For reservations, call 610-388-6221.

Kreutz Creek Vineyards in West Grove also offers an adults-only Easter egg hunt, featuring prizes, coupons and wine on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. For free reservations, call Carole at 610-869-4412.

Join the Easter Bunny at The Radnor Hotel on Saturday, April 15 for a special children’s tea from 1 to 3 p.m. Tickets cost $59.95 for one child and one adult, plus tax and service charge. For reservations, call 610-341-3145 by April 12 at 5 p.m.

Teresa’s Café in Wayne toasts spring with a series of special wine, beer and whisky events this April and May, including a dinner with Dewar’s on Wednesday, April 19. Advance tickets required, $85 per person. Call 610-293-9909.

Le Creuset celebrates its grand opening at the King of Prussia Mall with three days of free events April 21 to 23.

On Friday, April 21, enjoy “bubbles, bites and shopping” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sip Champagne and sample award-winning goat cheeses from Yellow Springs Farm in Chester Springs.

On Saturday, April 22 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., check out a cooking demonstration with chef Ben Thomas of Restaurant Cerise in Bryn Mawr. Complementing the food: wines from Crossing Vineyards and Winery.
