A New Jersey man has won the dream job of Master Model Builder for Philadelphia’s Legoland Discovery Center after winning Brick Factor, a two day event held outside the center’s location at Plymouth Meeting Mall.
Judges awarded Michael Nieves of Monmouth Junction, N.J., the first-place prize Lego trophy — a gold cup built with Lego bricks — and a full-time job as Master Model Builder at Legoland Discovery Center. As master builder, Nieves will be responsible for developing new models and features for the center and will work with the thousands of children who are expected to visit.
During the event, competitors of all ages used their imaginations to win two timed elimination challenge rounds Saturday and a final Sunday. Judges included Boston’s master builder Megan Quigley.
Set to open in spring 2017, Legoland Discovery Center is a 33,000-square-foot indoor playground at Plymouth Meeting Mall featuring Lego-themed building areas, interactive rides, activities and a mini model of Philadelphia built entirely with Lego bricks. The project broke ground Oct. 25 and celebrated by, to the delight of children, dropping 50,000 Lego bricks outside the mall’s food court.
