It’s country music’s version of the Firefly Music Festival.
Coming to The Woodlands of Dover International Speedway June 26-28 is the inaugural Big Barrel Country Music Festival. In addition to headliners Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, other big name artists taking the stage include Jake Owen, Chris Young, Gary Allan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard and many more.
Isn’t that the weekend right after Firefly?
Yes, and the festival will provide a similar experience within the festival and campgrounds. Highlights include a large-scale dance hall, BBQ area, saloon, marketplace with a variety of western goods and products, as well as a family-friendly area. Big Barrel is being put on by the creators of Firefly Music Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival held in California.
What’s the ticket information?
They’re in wristband form. Three-day general admission passes are $99. There are three-day “Front Porch” packages for $499 plus applicable fees (assuming those are not already sold out). There’s a helpful Passes FAQ section at http://bigbarrel.com/home/. You can also call (888) 512-SHOW.
And there’s camping?
Camping tickets vary depending what you’re planning to do. Tent camping is $149 plus fees, and RV packages start at $299 plus fees. Payment plans are available. Get specifics at the Camping tab at http://bigbarrel.com/home/. If you’d rather book a hotel, there are suggestions under the Festival Info tab.
Who else will be there?
Also scheduled to appear are Kacey Musgraves, The Oak Ridge Boys, Billie Jo Shaver, Shakey Graves, The Stray Birds, The Bros. Landreth, The Del McCoury Band, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Felice Brothers, Eric Paslay, Sturgill Simpson, Jon Pardi, Cassadee Pope, Jana Kramer, Charlie Worsham, Joel Crouse, Chris Stapleton, Nikki Lane, The Deslondes, Jackie Lee, Logan Mize, Wade Bowden, Caitlin Rose, Sam Lewis, Steven Lee Olsen, Whiskey Shivers, Drake White and the Big Fire, Michael Ray, Born Sisters and Dan + Shay.
Is the schedule set?
There’s a lineup breakdown by day on the website. At a glance, Friday will feature Blake Shelton on the main stage and Lynyrd Skynyrd on the Wildwood Stage. Saturday, it’s Miranda Lambert (main) and Loretta Lynn (Wildwood). Sunday features Carrie Underwood and The Oak Ridge Boys.
What’s the best way to get there?
For now, it looks like Delaware State Route 1 south to exit 104, then to U.S. Route 13 south. If there are excessive delays on 13, DelDOT could close the Dover exit off Route 1 and direct motorists to go south to exit 95, then north on 13.
Anything else I should look for?
The website also has details on accessibility, a site map and information on locker rentals. Big Barrel is on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Spotify.
“Firefly, combined with its home at The Woodlands of Dover International Speedway, has established the East Coast’s standard when it comes to delivering a top-notch music festival,” Firefly and Big Barrel director Greg Bostrom stated in a press release. “We’ll leverage the Firefly foundation and our collective backgrounds bringing preeminent music festivals to life to establish Big Barrel as the benchmark for country music experiences this side of the Mississippi River.”
