Tune-in to “Steve Harvey” on Tuesday, March 17 as Steve welcomes local 11 year old, Mackenzie McCarty of Warminster,  as a guest on the show. Mackenzie has a rather unique hobby. For the past two years, she has studied and practiced taxidermy! Not only does she preserve the animals, she makes clothes and props for the animals and displays them in specially crafted scenes. You won’t want to miss the “gift” that she prepared for Steve Harvey — a mouse dressed up as him (complete with a mustache, suit and tie!) on a miniature replica of his talk show set.

Mackenzie became interested in taxidermy at the age of nine, after her mom’s pet squirrel died. Mackenzie was fascinated by the entire process. That Christmas, Mackenzie’s mom presented her with a taxidermy class and she’s been doing it ever since! Mackenzie said she is strictly “no kill” and retrieves her subjects from road kill that she finds or from purchasing already dead mice from the pet store.

Mackenzie currently is in sixth grade at Log College Middle School in Warminster. “My friends and classmates think it’s really creepy … but I enjoy doing it,” Mackenzie says.
