Drexel University will be hosting a hackathon this weekend at the Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center (3120 Market Street), testing some of the brightest minds on campus and across the region at Dragon Hacks, which is proud to be part of Major League Hacking (MLH) powered by DELL.
MLH helps put on over 70 hackathons across North America and the UK every year, giving students unique chances to create, innovate and network with leading edge technology and mentors.
Dragon Hacks will be specifically focused on the innovation and hacking of different hardware projects. This is especially unique in modern day hackathons, as software hacks are typically the most frequently created type of project. It should prove to be an extremely exciting competition with the focus turning solely toward the underutilized and underappreciated hardware hack.
The event, which is the first in MLH’s long Spring semester competition schedule, will feature lectures and workshops from experts, professionals, and professors that range from introductory programming concepts to the latest groundbreaking research.
Drexel’s most talented student designers, developers and makers will spend their weekend teaming up fellow Dragons as well as like-minded students from other universities around the region, with hundreds of hackers expected to participate.
At the end of the weekend, teams will demo what they have created and attempt to earn valuable points to help their schools rise to the top of the Major League Hacking season standings. Students will have access to hardware provided by MLH’s presenting sponsor, Dell, which will include XPS laptops and All-in-ones, Precision workstations, and Alienware gaming consoles, monitors, tablets.
Also on hand will be some of the other most cutting edge tech available, including Arduino, Microsoft Kinect, Beaglebone Black, Tessel, Oculus Rift, VR, Myo, & Raspberry Pi, among others.
