The N Crowd brings its special brand of instant insanity to Pottstown when the improv group based in Philadelphia makes its annual pilgrimage to member BJ Ellis’ hometown. The troupe plays Steel River Playhouse Saturday at 8 p.m.
Residing in Old City, the The N Crowd performs Friday nights at 8 p.m. at The Actors Center, 257 Third St. in Philadelphia. . The group’s mission of “keeping Philly funny,” has been their driving factor thus far. Focusing on spontaneity and audience participation in a casual environment proves successful for this troupe. The N Crowd’s quirky actors and director are unmistakably “true professionals.” Philadelphia Style Magazine has deemed them “Philadelphia’s premiere improv comedy troupe.”
The N crowd was founded in 2005, and has performed more than 500 times in the Greater Philadelphia area. The N Crowd has been praised by numerous critics and was recently awarded Best Comedy Club by PHL 17’s Philly Hot List. The troupe has also earned this award in 2008, 2010, and 2013. They have made appearances in the Toronto Improv Festival, the Richmond Improv Festival, the Philadelphia Improv Festival, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival.
Perfroming this Saturday in Pottstown are Pottstown native BJ Ellis, Karen Coleman, Jamie Glasheen, Sarah Knittel, Brendan Norton, Chris Rearick and Jessica Snow.
Other members of the troupe are Kristen Burke. Mike Connor, Rob Cutler, Beth Eisenberg, Vegas Lancaster, Kristen Schier, Ben Schindler and Josh Samors.
Every show is unscripted – the audience helps out by suggesting scenarios, characters, or themes, and what happens next is a mixture of chemistry, comedy and camaraderie as the actors spontaneously create one hilarious skit after another.
