Montgomery Theater won The Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical Award for The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) at the 2014 Barrymore Awards on October 27th in Philadelphia.  Director Stephen Casey accepted the Award and Artistic Director Tom Quinn commented “It is great to be valued for the high caliber of work that we do at Montgomery Theater.  This one was pure fun.  The directors and cast set off from day one to make this production a laugh fest for our audiences. And they succeeded with remarkable results!”  Cast mates Michael Doherty, Joseph Michel O’Brien, Chelsea Grace Claiser, and Erica Scanlon Harr along with Musical Director Michelle Ferdinand and Mr. Casey were thrilled to be recognized with this honor.

Montgomery Theater was selected from hundreds of regional professional performances that are reviewed by the Barrymore Committee each year.  The Barrymore Awards have served as Philadelphia’s professional theatre awards program since 1994, recognizing artists for excellence and innovation while increasing awareness of the richness of our city’s thriving theatre community.

The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) is a musical about musicals! June is an ingénue who can’t pay the rent and is threatened by her evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man come to the rescue? Experience the story in Kansas in August in the style of Rodgers and Hammerstein; with a landlord who is a tortured artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge for not appreciating his work; a splashy star vehicle a la Jerry Herman; a rock musical version; an Andrew Lloyd Webber version and a version set in a speakeasy in Chicago with songs in the style of Kander and Ebb.  The play ran in April 2014 to enthusiastic audiences.

Up next at Montgomery Theater is Greetings! by Tom Dudzick running November 12 to December 7th.  Call 215-783-9984 or visit www.montgomerytheater.org for tickets.
