“It’s All About Kids!” That’s the slogan for Blue Bell Rotary Clubs 9th annual Chefs of the ‘Burbs gala fundraiser, which will be celebrated from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 23 in the grand ballroom of Pinecrest Country Club, at the intersection of Doylestown Road (old U.S. Rte. 202) and Country Club Drive, just north of Montgomeryville’s five points intersection. The evening will feature gourmet offerings from over 20 of the area’s finest restaurants, accompanied by complimentary wine and beer.
So how does Blue Bell Rotary keep an event like this new and exciting? Lots of ways! Event chair Lei Barry explained that “This year we kept the most popular restaurants from past years and then we’ve recruited new participants from among our members’ favorite spots. We are particularly pleased to announce that the newly re-imagined Blue Bell Inn Harvest and Seasons 52 will be joining us. “ Club President Joanne Messerschmidt added that “We realized that many of the charities and projects we support, including our many international projects, have a real focus on helping children. Locally, that includes great organizations such as the Wissahickon Valley Boys and Girls Clubs and Cradles to Crayons. Internationally, that includes saving and improving the lives of children in African orphanages, providing better health care during childbirth, eradicating polio by vaccinating millions and doing facial reconstructions for children with birth defects. We decided to focus this years events on children and have adopted the slogan “It’s All About Kids.” All of the proceeds of the live auction will go to the Wissahickon Valley Boys and Girls Club.”
What kind of impact can your attendance have? Lei Barry said: “We’re shooting for a target of $50,000 net proceeds, every dime of which will be used for our charities and our charitable projects. There’s actually a multiplier effect, because we are often able to obtain grants from Rotary International Foundation for our major projects, bundled together with our own funds. We are also extremely fortunate that a lot of the expenses of the evening are covered by the generous donations from our corporate sponsors. Once again, Univest has partnered with us at the highest level of participation.
Guests will have many different opportunities to participate during the evening. The silent auction is an old favorite, and will include many different tempting items, such as restaurant gift certificates, themed baskets of goodies, foursomes at local country clubs and sports memorbilia. But for many guests, the highlight of the evening is the live auction. The live auction includes a few very special items. Last year’s live auction included the use of a magnificent new Jaguar for a week, a private dinner party with guests transported by limousine and a vacation at an outstanding Napa Valley B & B. What will be on the list this year? Lei and Joanne aren’t saying, but their secret smiles suggests that some great surprises are in store.
