Enjoy the butterfly garden while exploring the fascinating world of insects. Learn the names and special adaptations of these amazing six-legged creatures. Bring an insect net and bug jar if you have them.

Take a closer look at a familiar ‘bug’. Ladybugs are actually beetles, not bugs, and there are many varieties, both native and non-native. After a field search children can make a ladybug craft. Adults with no children are welcome.

Knee Deep in the Creek

Explore the underwater world of Kepner Creek. Learn how to collect and classify aquatic insects according to their tolerance for pollution. Use seine nets to catch minnows. We’ll look for frogs, salamanders, and turtles too. Wear sturdy water shoes or old sneakers. You will be going in the water. No flip-flops or rain boots, please!
