Montgomery County Community College will host an exhibit this summer, showcasing the work of 10 artists who’ve worked together in group sessions for many years.
“The Artists’ Model” is running at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell June 25 through Aug. 14 at the college’s Fine Arts Center Gallery.
The gallery will showcase the work of 10 artists, who have spent many years working together. They are Marie Bender, Betz Green, Linda and John Gist, Wayne Hibschman, Steve Kennedy, Nancy and Charles Schmidt, Phyllis Purves Smith and Elsa Tarantal.
A few of the artists — Bender, Hibschman and Charles Schmidt — have collaborated for more than 30 years.
The group, whose members vary from portrait painters, anatomy teachers, a NASA artist, university professors to botanical illustrators, meets on Wednesdays to paint, draw and sculpt using a live model as inspiration. The exhibition features the results of these sessions and includes oils, charcoal, silverpoint, watercolor, pencil, pastel and clay.
“They are really interested in doing work from the [live] model just to keep our skills honed,” said Betz Green.
Green, who has met with the group for about five years, explains that when they come together, they help influence one another. Besides successfully collaborating, they support each other and have became friends over the years.
“We’re all really [looking out] for each other,” said Green of the group’s camaraderie. “We’re all the best of friends, even outside of the Wednesday night sessions.”
Each of the group works with different types of art.
“Some work in oil, some work in water color to pastels, some work in clay,” explained Green. “I use silverpoint … it’s drawing with a piece of silver, a piece of gold, piece of copper.”
The exhibit is free and open to anyone. For more information, visit www.Facebook/DestinationArts.
