To kick off the 25th annual Manayunk Arts Festival weekend, Manayunk will begin the celebration with a Summer Solstice Fire on Friday evening, June 20. Visitors can watch as 12 blazing floating bonfires on the Manayunk Canal come to life.
The celebration of the summer solstice will kick off at 5 p.m. in Canal View Park in Manayunk. The
evening will include a live native animal show by the Schuylkill Center of Environmental Education, a sneak peak of a public dance and theater celebration of the Schuylkill River title “Invisible River.”  Also, guests will have the opportunity to make wishes on wishing sticks and throw them into the fire, signifying future goals for the summer season.

Destination Schuylkill River, a project of the Manayunk Development Corporation, seeks to engage the community by transforming the canal and building a sense of stewardship for this unique characteristic and habitat; the canal is adjacent to the Schuylkill River trail which is used by an estimated 800,000 people annually.
