Act II Playhouse in Ambler announces four special events during the month of June.
Act II’s latest Stand-Up Comedy Weekend will be held on Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 21 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The three headlining comedians are The Legendary Wid, Mike Stankiewicz, and Julia Scotti.
The Legendary Wid (Friday, June 20) is a very funny veteran comedian who uses props. He is known nationwide and has worked with everyone from Bill Hicks to Jonathan Winters. He has been seen on Comedy Central, ABC, Showtime, and HBO.
Winner of the prestigious “Best of Philly” award presented by Philadelphia Magazine, Mike Stankiewicz (Saturday, June 21 at 7 p.m.) takes you down a road you didn’t expect to travel with a conversational style that makes you feel like you’re riding the bar stool next to him. He appeared on “Comedy On The Road” with John Byner on A&E.
Julia Scotti (Saturday, June 21 at p.m.) was the winner of Showtime’s Funniest Person in America contest for New Jersey; she lost the finals to Ellen DeGeneres. Julia performs all over the country and is a regular at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas and the Borgata, Atlantic City. “Hilarious, powerful, dynamic, real…if you combine Sam Kinison and Mrs. Doubtfire you have Julia Scotti!”
CoEXISTdance Celebrates Five! will be held on Monday, June 23 at 7 p.m.
CoEXISTdance, Inc. is a non-profit dance company based in Delaware County, PA. The organization upholds a mission of blending community service and dance, introducing dance to new places and spaces, and making dance accessible to everyone. The company consists of three branches: professional, apprentice, and junior. CoEXISTdance is celebrating five years of establishment this summer the best way they know how: dancing themselves silly!
On Friday, June 27 at 8 p.m., Act II hosts An Evening with Lynnie Godfrey.
Spend an evening with this talented star of stage (Broadway’s Eubie) and screen (“704 Houser,” the sequel to “All in the Family”). Lynnie Godfrey will sing classic songs from songwriters such as Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Stephen Sondheim, and the Beatles. Critics say she brings it all – “fabulous dresses, theatrical savvy, witty banter, a crackerjack backing band, a powerhouse voice and a selection of popular classic songs.”
Finally, on Saturday, June 28 at 8 p.m., Act II hosts An Evening with Katie Eagleson.
Come enjoy the Great American Songbook and beyond. Katie Eagleson will perform jazz, some Broadway, some French songs, and of course some tunes by the classic composers of the Great American Songbook. As one critic wrote, “Eagleson’s voice is beautiful, but it’s how she utilizes that beauty to communicate the meaning of the lyrics that makes her singing so memorable.”
Tickets for all of these June performances are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, $15 for subscribers, and $10 for students. They are available by calling the Act II Box Office at (215) 654-0200, in person at 56 E. Butler Ave. in Ambler, or online at http://www.act2.org.
